Capstone Project: Leadership for New Ventures

Length: 1:20

The Capstone Project helps students step outside their comfort zone, apply what they are learning in a real-world context and discover their leadership potential. Capstone works as a leadership exercise without hierarchy, where participants learn to make decisions, solve problems and influence others through persuasion rather than formal authority. For some, it also becomes the foundation of a real business idea that continues beyond the program.

In this video you’ll learn:

  • How the Capstone Project pushes participants beyond their comfort zone and helps them discover new capabilities.

  • How Capstone allows students to apply TRIUM learning in a real-world context, whether to a live enterprise or a venture that could become real.

  • Why Capstone is a powerful exercise in leadership without hierarchy, requiring influence, persuasion and agreement rather than formal authority.

  • How, for some participants, the project can become the basis of a real business plan or venture beyond the program.

Speakers:

Professor Matt Mulford, TRIUM Capstone Director

Massimo Tammaro, TRIUM Capstone Director

Capstone gives you the opportunity to put yourself out of the comfort zone, to learn something new, to discover your potential.

The Capstone Project is really an opportunity to do three things. One is it allows people to apply what they’re learning within the Trium program in a real way to a kind of real, ongoing enterprise, or at least an enterprise that could become real. The second thing it allows people to do, the students have a real opportunity to try to practice authority free leadership.

Capstone is a leadership exercise. There’s no hierarchy, so you have to learn how to make decisions, how to solve problems, how to proceed without just using power by convincing people, influencing people or find an agreement.

The third thing that capstone allows people to do for those who are interested is it gives them the environment that they can actually put together a business plan that then goes on to be a real business. It’s not the primary focus. We aren’t an incubator, but that certainly happens. And for a lot of people, it changes their lives.
