He is a business and leadership coach working with senior leaders from both private (Fortune 500 companies & SME) and not for profit organizations to strengthen their leadership practices and to transform their organizational culture to better adapt to the ever-changing environment.

Before setting up his coaching practices, Sam Chia was the Managing Consultant for regional human resources consulting practices specializing in leadership assessment and selection, leadership development, and organization development. This includes supporting clients to build a strong and cohesive leadership team, develop their leadership pipeline, and build a positive work environment to better engage its people. His clients are spread across different industries e.g. banking, pharmaceutical, chemicals, retail, hospitality, technology, constructions, professional firms, etc.

Sam was originally from Malaysia, had lived and worked in China, and now resides in Singapore. He was formerly the Vice President and Managing Director of the subsidiaries of a global listed company. He had profit and loss responsibility for the specialty chemicals business across China, Southeast Asia, and India. He was also a member of the board of directors for their Japan and China subsidiaries. He had built and led a successful diversified team across Asia. His experiences included champion the successful implementation of 6 Sigma, ISO9001 & 14001, business turnaround, acquisition, integration and merger, and business expansion into new territories.

Sam has a special interest in developing leadership capability through coaching. He started practicing coaching when he was still a business leader with the objective to better support his team. He is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credentialed by the International Coach Federation in the United States. Sam has co-edited a book in 2010, “Coaching in Asia: The First Decade” and was recognized as one of the 100 Best Global Coaching Leaders by World HRD Congress in 2017. He is also on the panel of judges for Brands For Good Asia Award that aims to recognize businesses that not only make a difference but also commit as stewards for a positive impact.

Sam is a Fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants. He obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of Bath, United Kingdom, and had attended the High Potentials Leadership Program, Harvard Business School.

Sam also works as a volunteer coach to support leaders of the not for profit sector that includes Yellow Ribbon Funds, Centre For Not Profit Leadership (CNPL) and Obama Foundation.
