TRIUM
returned to Shanghai for Module 3 with the Class of
2011. We were fortunate to have Professors Eng, Xiao
and Kerbache reprise their courses in Entrepreneurship,
Managing in China and Supply Chain Management. The
Professional Development and Leadership Program included
a talk by Ron MacEachern, former CEO of Pepsico in
Asia and a member of the HKUST faculty, on leadership
and the challenges to expatriates by Ron MacEachern,
former CEO of Pepsico in Asia and a member of the
HKUST faculty. Jean-Loup Ardoin was on hand to nurture
the founding of the 2011 term projects.
As
part of the Managing in China course, we made our
annual visit to Lincoln Electric (see picture) and
also received a warm welcome at the private company
Shanghai Hold Heavy with Professor Xiao. Our hosts
HKUST, looked after us with their usual expertise,
and Okura Garden Hotel provided an excellent learning
environment.
Unfortunately
for about 20 students and our own Shona Macfarlane,
the Okura became known as the Hotel California. “You
can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave”! Due to volcanic ash
about 20 students were stranded in Shanghai. But in
true TRIUM fashion, Shona kept everyone organized,
students took it as an opportunity to learn more about
China and some thought it was a great TWO week module!
